The Parable of the Sower teaches that the problem is not the seed. The seed is the Word of God, and the Word is powerful. The question is the condition of the ground. This sermon focused on the need for the Word to go deeper than the surface and reach the heart.
Some people hear a sermon and feel joy for a moment. They may be excited, emotional, or moved in the service. But if the Word does not take root, that excitement fades when they leave the house of God. The sermon described shallow change: a person hears a statement, feels stirred, but never allows true conviction to settle in the spirit.
For the Lord to use us and bring lasting fruit out of our lives, the heart must be touched. The Word must drop down into the inner person. It must convict, correct, cleanse, and transform.
The preacher shared how the gospel first reached his heart in 1974. Though he had a religious background, attended mass, confessed, and knew religious practice, the preaching of the gospel pierced him personally. It felt as though the preacher was speaking directly to him, even though no one knew his life. That is the work of the Holy Ghost. God knows every thought, every struggle, every hidden place, and every need. When the Word is preached under the Spirit’s leading, it can find a person in the crowd and speak directly to the heart.
That is what many people experience in a true Bible believing church. They may wonder, “How did the preacher know?” The answer is that the Holy Ghost knows. The Spirit of God can use the Word to reveal, convict, and call a person to repentance.
Matthew 13 also warns about stony ground. The seed springs up quickly but has no depth. When trouble, temptation, offense, or persecution comes, the plant withers. Many believers have heard enough Word to begin, but not enough rootedness to endure. The sermon called the church to go beyond temporary emotion and allow Scripture to form deep conviction.
Joshua 1:8 teaches that the book of the law should not depart from the mouth, but should be meditated upon day and night. Psalm 119 shows the power of treasuring the Word in the heart. Galatians 6:9 encourages believers not to grow weary in well doing, because in due season we shall reap if we faint not.
For people looking for Christian discipleship, Bible based preaching, Apostolic teaching, or a church in Raleigh that believes in the transforming power of Scripture, this sermon gives a clear message: let the Word get into your heart.
Do not only hear the Word. Receive it. Do not only enjoy the message. Obey it. Do not only feel convicted in the moment. Follow through when you leave the building. The enemy wants to steal the seed through distraction, doubt, offense, and worldly thinking. But when the heart is good ground, the Word produces fruit.
