How to Activate Your Faith
Faith is unquestionable belief that does not require proof. It’s the complete trust or confidence on a person, divine entity or thing. For your faith to be meaningful and effective it must contain commitment to action, without which its dead. Understanding how to activate your faith rests upon the subject of your expectation which could involve the following:
- Faith in God
This deals with a firm persuasion or conviction on divine revelation or truth which induces personal surrender. Its written in the scriptures, “And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God” (Mark 11:22, KJV). Here you see the call to put our total confidence in God to reap a beneficial outcome. A careful examination reveals the intent of this call, which I believe is predicated upon the faithful and the unfailing character of God.
- Faith in man
Consist of an opinion held about a person without necessary reference to its proof. Setting your faith in motion
- By action based on the word of God
- By applying the promises of God as life’s circumstance arise
- One of the evidence of growing faith is the presence of practical love among the brethren.
The fallacy of this unfortunately is the inherent tendency of human person to fail. Our faith in human person should always be cautious and with provision for possible disappointment.
The scripture speaks volumes on this regards when it says, “Is it belief to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man?” (Psalms 118:8, KJV)
Activating your faith therefore will be enhanced or restricted based on the object of the faith, God or man. It is clear from practical living and experiences that human help has limitations.
Activating our faith will involve understanding the elements of (a) Dead faith – James 2:26 (b) Growing faith-2 Thessalonians 1:3 (c) Serving faith – Ephesians 2:8 and (d) Common faith – Romans 12:3, Titus 1:4. We have to understand that activations implies turning something on or simply put, getting something started. On this promise I submit here how to activate your faith.
- First identify what the desired goal or need is. The bible informs us that if there is double mindedness, we will be driven by emotion without concrete focus.
- Be certain that the object of your faith is in the will of God
- Take corresponding action based on your esteemed promise
- Rest assured that your action is appropriate and remains calm.
- Move on in the spirit of expectation and be thankful
The preceding five key points play essential roles in how to activate your faith. Like anything else in life you’ll get better by practice. My faith over the years has grown strong through all sorts of challenges and corresponding outcomes. In reality your “faith grows through the challenges you face”: Action gives legs to your faith, so don’t hesitate to act out what you believe.
How to Trust God
To trust God has been a major problem since the unfolding of human history. I will submit that even in the dispensation of innocence, Adam and Eve would not have disobeyed God if they trusted him. They trusted a third party suggestion rather than the maker commandments and look oat the mess that the brought upon humanity. Here are key principles on how to trust God.
- Acceptance of Divine Entity
Trust begins with the acknowledgement or the acceptance of the object that you base the trust on. If you don’t first accept that there is a creator called God divine entity and sovereign above all, then your trust will have no basis.
The scripture says, “That God hath saith in his heart, there is not God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable inequity: there is none that doeth good” (Psalms 53:11, KJV) A close examination of this scripture carries profound truths. From personal experiences, those who refuse to accept the creator God most times and self willed, full of evil practices and live a life of vanity. Such people and how to trust God irrelevant task.
- Don’t lean on your Human Understanding
You are finite but God in infinite therefore to look at him from a human perspective is a hindrance to divine revelation. The biggest impediment in my life in trusting God was the fallacy of my human wisdom. It’s amazing when we tend to act wisely than the one created all thing including us.
The weight of the following scriptures informs us of the foolishness of seeing God from human orientation. It reads, “For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” (I Corinthians 3:19-21, KJV). We must disengage ourselves from human wisdom and understanding, this is a powerful key on how to trust God.
- Accept his word as infallable if you’re a Christian, you have to accept the truth of God’s word. You cannot trust or live a victorious Christian life if you doubt his word. Every word of God is true, lively and powerful.
The bible informs us that God will magnify his word above his name. Rest upon God’s word, read it, meditate upon it, memorize it and act upon it. By his words his promises are revealed to human persons.
- Put your faith in him
Your total confidence may rest upon him. Faith is a sure way of how to trust God. Your faith will grow as you study and put his word in practical living. There is no other way to know that God exist if you hesitate acting upon his word.
If you have ever wonder of how to trust God, take the few keys into your heart and live by them and watch the transformation they will make.
How to Win Over the Flesh
The Christian life is met with daily challenges and demands careful walk to redeem each day. To live a life that is pleasing to God and catapult us into a place of service must dies to the flesh and live unto God. Here is five ways of how to win over fleshly battles.
- Don’t obey the demands of the flesh that contradicts God’s law.
- If you choose to neglect this and yields to your emotions, you cannot please the Lord. The bible says, “so then they that are in the flesh cannot please God” (Romans 8:8, KJV)
- Be careful not to assume that you’ll be able to control the outcome when the flesh is charged up. Its always a downward, slippery slope
- Walk constantly in the spirit and be prayerful and watchful
- Jesus said watch and pray that you may enter not into temptation. This call for a real habit of prayer and circumspection. …..”This I say then walk in the spirit and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh (Galatians 5:11, KJV). A conscience spirit of obedience is the requirement of taming the demands of the flesh.
- Don’t serve the flesh by carrying out its orders
- The flesh can run you wild if you allow it, so don’t become the slave and errand person.
- Once again it’s written “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey; whether of sin unto death or of obedience unto righteousness? (Romans 6:16). There it is before us and it matters not what your ministerial title is. If you yield to sin, you are a servant to sin, not to Christ. No person can serve two masters.
- Die to the flesh and kill its passions
- If Christ is reigning in our lives by the power of his spirit, we’re commanded to, “Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence and covetousness, which is idolatry; for which things sake the wrath of God cometh on the children disobedience, when ye lived in them. But now ye also put of all these, anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds. And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him (Colossians 3:5-10).
- The process can be achieved through fasting, prayer, meditation on God’s word and temperance.
- Have a hunger to be filled with the spirit of God on a regular basis.
- “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6)
You are caution not to have confidence in your flesh. To be of God’s service demands that your earnestly seek for God’s abiding grace on a daily basis. If you do these you’ll be victorious in your daily Christian walk. (Philippians 3:3)
Spiritual Gifts
Understanding spiritual gifts plays a critical role in the life of Christians. It plays a profound part in the growth of a believer such that Apostle Paul write, “now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant” (1 Corinthians 12:1, KJV). To ever Christian God has given them gifts according to the proportion of their faith. It is what we do with these gifts that determines our effectiveness in our area service.
To fully understand spiritual gifts, it is essential to understand what it mean to be born again of the water and of the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God” (John 3:5, KJV). Before we talk about spiritual gifts, we must first and foremost, receive the fist of the Holy Spirit. The initial experience that you’ve receipt the gift of the Holy Ghost is to speak with other tongues. Jesus says, “And behold I sent the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endured with power from on high (Acts 1:8).
John the Baptist writing about this to his followers record, “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear; he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire” (Matthew 3:11, KJV). John the Baptist informed his audience that he was just baptisms then only in water but that Jesus is the who will baptize them in Holy Spirit.
After one receive the Holy spirit according as the scripture says, “But yea shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth (Acts 1:8). Then you’re ready for service. To fully understand the working of Spirit in our lives, we must surrender ourselves to the service of the Lord.
There are differences in operation and administration but it all carried out by the same spirit. We see in the scriptures expressed gifts of the spirit. These gifts are given to edify the body of Christ, it is not given for any personal profit. Just because a person has received a particular gift does not make them superior than others. “For who maketh thee to differ from another, and what hast thou that thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory as if thou hadst not receive it? (1 Corinthians 4:7). The operation of the gifts is essential to strengthen of the body.
It’s possible to be given more then one gifts, I believe that it’s our faithful in service that determines whether we have one or more gifts. The bible says that a person whom much is give, much is also required of such. We must bear in mind that we do not have any say on whom should have what, the spirit does the distribution on his own accord.
The church without the gifts of the spirit is powerful and cannot effectively fulfill the purpose of Christ in our world. As members of the body of Christ we are ask to desire spiritual gifts. Our effectiveness rests upon the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. This the Lord living in us to fulfill his will. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure (Philippians 2:13).
